How the "Trust Bank" Helped McDonald's During the Rodney King Riots in LA

As many of you know, during the LA riots sparked by the video of police beating Rodney King, five minority-owned McDonald's restaurants remained unscathed when virtually all of the surrounding area was destroyed by rioters and looters. This was attributed to the community involvement of the owners of those franchise restaurants.

I've used this example many times when talking about the power of strong community relations. But, I was not personally involved.

My colleague, Chuck Ebeling was.  He was director of corporate communications for McDonald's in the 1980s and 1990s, and he recently wrote a great account of that time in his Blog "Apple Pressings." Here is the link:  http://tinyurl.com/7k7nxto.
